Walking Is The Most Underrated Form Of Exercise

WALKING SAVED MY SANITY
If you’ve been following along for awhile now then you know 2 years ago I was diagnosed with Epstein bar and SIBO—two conditions causing weak immunity, which led to flu-like symptoms with extremely low energy, more days than not.
To limit stress on my body I was medically advised to only walk and stop all other forms of exercise.
I was resistant at first. I loved the fit woman I‘d spent years trying to become through strength training and I was forced to sit and watch her slip away.
I knew walking couldn’t replace the strong girl I built with my previous training and I was right…partially.
It didn’t replace the PHYSICALLY strong person I was, but it surpassed the mental one.
But not at first. At first I was a mess. It was like someone turned up the volume of all the negative self talk and poor body image issues I thought I’d worked through from my childhood.
But after many walks, with self reflection, I started to grasp a different perspective and here’s what I learned…
I AM NOT MY BODY—My body is a part of me, but it’s not all of me. Most importantly, it doesn’t define me. My only responsibility is to take care of it to the best of my ability. To do that I must give it love and respect daily.
HEALTH IS MORE THAN PHYSICAL—spending less time focused on my fitness goals, I dove deep into my spiritual goals. Prayer has been the greatest reminder that God is planting me for something big and wants to make sure I’m ready to accept new opportunities.
THERE’S A TIME AND PLACE FOR EVERYTHING—Wellness will always be a top priority, however HOW I choose to take care of my mind, body, and spirit will change based off of the season of life I’m in and that’s okay.
And lastly, but certainly not least –
WALKING COUNTS AS EXERCISE—I was conditioned to believe stronger, harder, and faster was the only way to condition my fitness. Now I know that was a lie. Just like balance in your nutrition leads to sustainable change, balance in movement does too.
I hope this inspired you to be less hard on yourself and motivated you to walk a little.
With Lots Of Healthy Love,
Toni
