5 Ways To Become Mentally Fit

Over the past few months our mental health has been challenged—We’ve lost our usually stress management outlets and the large amounts of uncertainty and loss make it difficult to stay positive. But if there’s anything I’ve learned over the years, it’s that life has ups and downs, ON PURPOSE—The downs are opportunities to choose growth and the ups show us the climb is worth it.
To be a successful entrepreneur I’ve had to develop this awareness and the skills to be mentally fit—without them, my clients would suffer, my business would crumble, and I would’ve stayed stuck living below my potential. But because I chose to challenge the moments of uncertainty, do the personal development work, and trust good things come after perseverance, I know better days are coming.
Here are 5 ways I’ve become mentally fit and how you can too:
EMBRACE SOLITUDE—Alone time used to make me anxious, but now I can’t go a day without it (quarantine or not). My work requires a lot of my mental energy, so I intentionally schedule time alone to replenish it. Journaling, meditation, and walking in nature are all ways I do this.
LISTEN TO INSPIRING MESSAGES—I don’t watch the news. I read an email every morning with a small update of what’s going on, but other than that I choose to fill my ears with educational audiobooks or podcasts.
LIMIT EXPOSURE TO NEGATIVE PEOPLE—Unfollow social media accounts who instill fear and unfollow your energy sucking family or friends in real life.
MAKE SMALL COMMITMENTS—Shorten your To-Do list to just 3 things. It’ll feel really good when you finally follow through with what you said you were going to do, rather than feeling frustrated in overwhelm.
HELP WHEN YOU WANT TO (Less When You Feel Obligated To)—This is part of boundary setting which will give you a healthy sense of control in this unpredictable world.
