My Break From Social Media And The Lessons Learned So Far

Two weeks ago I decided to take a break from social media to complete the first draft of my very first book— something I’ve been struggling to prioritize since last year.
Reflecting on how much time I spend checking notifications, giving advice, and answering dm’s on multiple platforms, I made the difficult decision to replace that time with writing my book.
I still can’t believe it.
Before Tips With Toni was a business, it was a blog, where I posted videos, photos, articles, quotes, and captions filled with healthy living ideas, everyday since 2010.
That’s ten years, or 3650 days, of giving a piece of myself to the world hoping to inspire change for the better.
As you can imagine, it’s been hard for me to stop sharing my tips. At first, it caused a lot of anxiety at first and thoughts like, “you should be talking about this on your story.” were constant.
But the less I gave into the pressure of posting, the less anxious I felt to do so.
My intention behind this social media break was to spend more time writing my book (which I’ve been doing!), but without the compulsion to post my workouts, nutritious meals, and how I choose to spend my time, I’ve been spending more time being fully present with them too.
Rather than thinking about my past or obsessing about my future, I’ve been in the moment with whatever I’m doing.
When I listen to music, I really hear the lyrics.
When I go for walks, I see fall on the trees.
When I cook, I smell the herbs and spices.
When I eat, I taste all flavors.
When I hug, I feel love.
And as a result, I’ve been significantly less stressed and immensely more grateful.
Here’s the lesson I didn’t know I was signing up for and one you may benefit from learning too:
Spend less time showing off your life and more time actually living it.
You can always snap a picture and save it to post later!
See you soon.
With Lots Of Healthy Love,
Toni
